Novato: Sic Transit, Temper, Tempus

I recently participated in one of the Public Comment sessions for the revised Marin County Transit Plan. and here are some of my light reflections over the changes
--We still don't know how to decide how many residents of Sonoma County we want to attract to Marin via bus, do we? We sure don't need more of them to come by car, though. That's why the route that serves to bring them to, and through here – the glorious workhorse the 80 -- should increase its frequency to every half hour during the main part of the day. Once an hour is just not convenient to be a viable alternative to the automobile.
--Turning the free County Shuttle Bus route that runs from the San Rafael Transit Center to the Offices on Redwood Drive off of Smith Ranch Road into a full fledged route may be an excellent idea, particularly if it can link Kaiser with the Sutter satellite facility on the east side of 101 in Terra Linda. However, I have some reservations. What about extending it to Novato--at least Hamilton--and how are the least affluent in our community going to handle to additional burden of paying for each trip.
--Maybe the Transit District should consider being more generous in passing out passes to patrons of the Social Services in Terra Linda, or let them ride for free.
--Tactile directional or warning tiles for the blind and disabled on the pavement at the transit stops should be extensively explored. This is important especially along the stops lining the freeway.
--When oh whenever will the MCTD come out with a ‘fast pass’ card for adults and the disabled for travel in the County. Not only would it increase ridership, it would also speed up entry of and exit from the buses. Believe it, and they will come.
All this being said, I want to congratulate Amy Van Doren and her staff in working with the present limitations to produce some positive directions and new, necessary routes and additional service.
Sincerely,
Carl Macki
