How to Make Biodiesel -- Class on Dec. 8th
December 8, 2006, San Francisco, CA" border="0" height="35" hspace="0" vspace="0" width="292">
Time: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily. Biodiesel is made from renewable resources such as raw or used vegetable oils or animal fats which can be used directly by diesel engines. Its production and usage are growing at an exponential rate, and it has the potential to be the primary alternative to fossil fuels for the world’s transport energy source. It is biodegradable, non-toxic, non-flammable and has significantly fewer emissions than petroleum-based diesel.
In this hands-on class, learn the process of making fuel from fresh or restaurant waste oil and examine the inner workings of a homemade small-scale biodiesel processor. Take this workshop to learn how to run your vehicle on biodiesel and help reduce the dependency on fossil fuels, whether by making your own 100% biodiesel or supporting local biodiesel co-ops and small businesses. Instructor: Jennifer Radtke.
Confirmation of your workshop registration, including location information, will be sent to you by mail. If you do not receive your registration confirmation within two weeks of your order, please call us at 707-744-2017.Cancellations: Any changes or cancellations made prior to two weeks from workshop date will be charged a $40 change or cancellation fee. Cancellations made within two weeks of workshop date are non-refundable.

Moyers on America: Is God Green?
October 11 at 9PM (check local listings). The documentary looks at the
significant implications of a debate among politically powerful
conservative evangelical Christians over the handling of the
environment.
I'm writing in hopes that you will help us spread the word about this
important and timely piece, and the national dialogue that has already
begun in our Moyers on America Citizens Class online at

We've created a number of tools for your use on your Website including
an e-postcard, web button, and downloadable video to help encourage
discussion of religion and the environment. Available at:

Moyers on America
"Is God Green?"
PBS Airdate: Wednesday, October 11 at 9 p.m. (check local listings). 60
minutes.
A new holy war is growing within the evangelical community, with stakes
for the earth and American politics. For over a decade liberal
Christians have made the environment a moral commitment. Now some
conservative evangelicals as well are standing up for the earth as a
Biblical imperative of stewardship. From a dynamic conservative church
in Boise, Idaho to an evangelical activist group known as Christians
for the Mountains in West Virginia, grassroots believers are speaking out.
So are some conservative evangelical leaders at the national level who
have called for action to stop global warming. But they are being met
head-on with opposition from religious right political figures like
Jerry Falwell and James Dobson, who are pillars of the right-wing
coalition that adamantly supports the Bush administration in
downplaying the threat of global warming. The political stakes are high: three
out of every four self-identified white evangelical voters cast their
ballots for George W. Bush in 2004. The program explores how a serious
split among conservative evangelicals over the environment and global
warming could reshape American politics.

Gov Signs Global Warming Bill
http://nrdc.org/media/pressreleases/060927.asp
SAN FRANCISCO (September 27, 2006) -- California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger penned his name on the nation's most ambitious effort to combat global warming at a bill-signing ceremony today on Treasure Island in San Francisco. The law's enactment marks a turning point in international efforts to solve the world's most pressing environmental problem, according to the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) and Environmental Defense, the environmental groups that sponsored the legislation. It caps a months-long campaign to set the nation's first statewide limits on emissions of carbon dioxide and other heat-trapping pollution.
Environmental Defense and NRDC shared the stage with the governor, more

Global Warming: California Sues Automakers
"California, which has battled the automotive industry over new global warming regulations for years, sued the world’s six-largest automakers yesterday, demanding that they pay for environmental damage caused by the emissions of their vehicles."
more“Global warming is causing significant harm to California’s environment, economy, agriculture and public health,” said the state’s attorney general, Bill Lockyer.
“Vehicle emissions are the single most rapidly growing source of the carbon emissions contributing to global warming, yet the federal government and automakers have refused to act.”

California passed the landmark California Global Warming Solutions Act recently, and as California goes, so goes the nation -- at least in theory. In reality, things will move more slowly than most concerned citizens would like -- the California law doesn't even really kick in until 2012.
It's certainly not too soon. Business leaders are increasingly concerned about the business impacts of climate change, including the uncertainty that comes from not knowing how to plan for potential changes in regulations. California's move could help, telegraphing where national policy might be headed.
The law also signaled a growing power of smaller companies in environmental debates, as Byron Kennard writes. One likely reason for small businesses' support of greenhouse gas regulation: The law is expected to unleash a new wave of business opportunity, and small, innovative companies stand to claim a good piece of the action.
It's a classic win-win: Business and society aligned with environmentalists in a manner that offers hope and promise for all.

Novato Transit Changes
New Route 52 (was served by Route 57 and Route 59)
With new Routes 49, 51, and 52, weekday connections between Route 51 and Route 49 and the weekend connection between Route 52 and Route 49 ensure that Novato residents only need to take one bus to access to key community destinations including Kaiser Hospital (both Terra Linda and Novato campuses), Northgate Mall, Marin Civic Center, as well as the San Rafael Transit Center for connections to other routes.
Local Route 49: Route 49 serves Hamilton and areas of Northern San Rafael including Kaiser, Northgate Mall, Civic Center, Dominican University, Grand Avenue and the San Rafael Transit Center. Route 49 increases service to Hamilton with weekday service that includes 15 northbound and 15 southbound trips to Hamilton, Saturday service that includes 13 northbound and 13 southbound trips to Hamilton and Sunday/Holiday service that includes 12 northbound and 12 southbound trips with buses operating every 60 minutes.
Local Route 51 (replaces Route 53 and Route 55): Route 51 will operate weekday service only every 60 minutes, between approximately 7 am and 9 pm, as a local circulator covering much of Novato and connecting San Marin, Downtown Novato, Vintage Oaks Shopping Center, Indian Valley College, and Hamilton. From the Ignacio Highway 101 bus pads, it will serve Ignacio Blvd, Indian Valley College, Sunset Blvd, Rowland Blvd, Vintage Oaks, Sutter Novato Medical Center, and South Novato Blvd to downtown Novato and San Marin. Service will no longer be provided to Bel Marin Keys. South of Ignacio, Route 51 becomes Route 49 and continues to serve Hamilton and areas of Northern San Rafael including Kaiser, Northgate Mall, Civic Center, Dominican University, Grand Avenue and the San Rafael Transit Center. New Route 51 will operate hourly on weekdays between approximately 7 am and 8 pm.
Highlights of Route 51
Increased evening service to San Marin is provided on new Route 51 with the addition of 2 northbound weekday trips and 3 new southbound weekday trips to San Marin resulting in service that operates up to approximately 9 pm, or 3 hours later than the current service.
Increased service to Indian Valley College
is provided with 4 afternoon and evening trips to Indian Valley College.
Less frequent service to Vintage Oaks
with weekday service frequencies changing from half-hourly service to hourly service.
There will be no service to Bel Marin Keys.
New Marin County Transit Local Route 52:
New Route 52 will provide direct service between Ignacio and an important bus transfer point at Redwood & Grant with buses operating every 30 minutes on weekdays and 60 minute on weekends. New Route 52 will operate between approximately 6 am to 8 pm on weekdays and 8 am to 8 pm on weekends.
Weekday Route 52
New Route 52 will include service on Redwood Blvd north to Olive Ave where it will serve the new Trader Joe’s. To the south from Ignacio (Enfrente & Salvatore), new Route 52 will extend along Alameda del Prado and Nave Drive to provide service to a portion of former Route 59.
Weekends/Holidays Only Route 52
New Route 52 will be extended to Vintage Oaks Shopping Center with 14 trips on Saturdays and 12 trips on Sundays/Holidays. On weekends, Route 52 is connected to Route 49 which continues south from Ignacio to serve Hamilton and areas of Northern San Rafael including Kaiser, Northgate Mall, Civic Center, Dominican University, Grand Avenue, and the San Rafael Transit Center.
